 "The Christian church is an encyclopedia of prehistoric cults." Friedrich Nietzsche  The Church of Misericórdia de Arcos de Valdevez, in baroque and neoclassical style, was built between 1595 and 1597, with decorative interventions in later centuries. The construction was an initiative of the Confraria de Nossa Senhora da Misericórdia de Arcos de Valdevez, to which it still belongs today. The cross, located in the square attached to the rear façade, in the area of the old cemetery, is an 18th century example made up of two steps, a decorated base and a capital with representations of the life of Christ, topped with a cross.
